Deployable Training for Treating Combat Injuries
SessionDemonstration Session 2
DescriptionThis demonstration includes two recent training applications aimed at improving readiness of U.S. military personnel for treating combat injuries in deployed settings. The first is the Tourniquet Troubleshoot Training (TTT) App. Aimed at non-medical personnel and Tier 1 medics, the TTT app is designed to support novices in recognizing and fixing tourniquet errors. The second is the Trainer for Advanced Life Support in Austere Regions (TALSAR). The goal of this research and development project was to create refresher training for Tier IV medics deployed to austere settings who may treat non-combat injuries in civilians. A study with with emergency medical technician students resulted in 25% better performance after using the TTT app. Formative testing of TALSAR suggests that learners find the TALSAR app engaging and useful.
For this demonstration, attendees will interact with both prototypes on provided Amazon Kindle Fire tablets. Each prototype includes didactics, activities, and tests.
