Scientist to Practitioner and Back Again—Tales From the Field
DescriptionIt is not uncommon to hear scientists lament that they do not see their research findings implemented, despite evidence their findings are reliable and beneficial. Similarly, it is also common to hear practitioners express frustration that scientific findings are often difficult to directly apply or do not specifically address issues related to problems they are currently experiencing. Given these challenges, there is no one solution and exploring methods to address these is the objective of this panel—to identify through real world examples effective practices for translating science into practice and identifying practical issues where scientific inquiry is needed. This will be done by hearing from those who have been both HF/E scientists and practitioners and can share their insights into effective methods of not only translating science to practice, but also leveraging applied settings to identify questions (both basic and applied) that warrant scientific inquiry.
