Integrating Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) Education with Entrepreneurial Mindset: Pedagogical Strategies to Better Prepare Future Graduates
DescriptionThis discussion panel convenes faculty from industrial and systems engineering, mechanical engineering, and engineering management programs to explore opportunities for integrating HFE education with active learning, entrepreneurial-minded learning, and participation in pitch and debate activities. These approaches have enriched engineering classes by fostering curiosity, connection, and value creation among students. The panel will discuss strategies for instilling an entrepreneurial mindset in undergraduate engineering students. Fostering an entrepreneurial mindset in HFE education encourages engineering students to think innovatively and consider the broader impacts of their designs on users. This approach aims to nurture graduates who are not only problem solvers but also value creators, innovators, and agile learners. Additionally, the session will cover the EM framework, specific terminology, and its overlaps with HFE education in more detail.
