CANCELED - Automating the Analysis of Dialogue Acts in Teams to Understand Distributed Sensemaking
DescriptionAutomatically transcribed radio communications were analysed as Dialogue Acts to explore how Sensemaking was affected by the ways in which information was obtained and shared by teams. To aid in this specification, we define a framework for the activity being performed and use this to label dialogue acts. We ran an experiment using C3Fire in which teams of three people received either views of their own units, their team's units, or the entire scene. Messages were categorised as Situation Awareness, Fire and Rescue Operations, Action, Reasoning. Transcripts were analysed manually and with both supervised and unsupervised Machine Learning. We show that dialogue act types (particularly for 'situation awareness' and 'reasoning') vary with the views given to the teams. such that a local view of the environment affects Situation Awareness and a teams ability to reason. The work contributes to automating the analysis of dialogue acts in operational and training settings.
