Interface Design and Evaluation to Support Transfer of Tactical Control (ToTC) in Distributed Teams
SessionCEDM8: Distributed Work I
DescriptionPersonnel with the Air Force Research Laboratory, 711th Human Performance Wing, Airman Systems Directorate, Collaborative Interfaces and Teaming Branch, developed a suite of interfaces to support the Transfer of Tactical Control (ToTC) of heterogeneous unmanned vehicles (UxVs) across a distributed team based on interviews and demonstrations with military members. The data obtained were critical to identifying pathways of information sharing, mission updating among operators, and in identifying critical vulnerabilities with ToTC in the sharing of tasks and assets. These outcomes were used to inform development of new interface designs, supporting ToTC effectiveness and efficient use of UxV resources among distributed teammates. This study evaluates the interfaces developed in a mission scenario to gather feedback about ToTC supporting interfaces and identifies further interface development needed for research.
