Patient Perceived Quality of Outpatient and Inpatient Care Between General and Specialized Hospitals
DescriptionThe differences in outpatient and inpatient care between general and specialized hospitals have not been thoroughly examined. The present study assessed and compared patient perceived quality of outpatient and inpatient care in all of the general and specialized tertiary public hospitals in a major city in China. The study identified gaps between patient experiences and expectations in terms of safety, tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy of outpatient and inpatient care. These gaps help hospitals identify areas of success or failure in meeting patient needs. The comparison between general and specialized hospitals provides empirical evidence to investigate whether specialized hospitals’ concentration on specific populations and medical conditions improves the quality of care and aids in the development of patient attraction and retention strategies in both general and specialized hospitals.
