Consumer Education With and Without Responsibility Information for Two ADAS Over-the-Air Updates
DescriptionAccurate understanding of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) is important to the safe utilization of the technologies. Drivers have gaps in their understanding of these systems, which are changing at an increasingly fast rate due to the adoption of over-the-air updates. There is a need to understand when additional consumer education (CE) is warranted and what information that CE should contain.

A framework can provide guidance related to the types of elements that should be included in CE. CE may provide information on the purpose, procedure, function, limitations of ADAS, and the driver’s responsibility. CE may contain some combination of each type of information, and research is needed to understand which elements are necessary for a specific educational approach. Furthermore, research is needed to understand how the content of CE interacts with the type of ADAS system being trained.
