The Effects of External Stressors on Human Error Within High-Risk Construction Environment
DescriptionConstruction workers face extreme stress due to various external stressors, significantly impacting their safety and productivity. These stressors include task-related pressures, environmental conditions, and social factors. Despite numerous studies on the effects of these stressors, there is limited empirical research on workers’ cognitive and behavioral failures. This study aims to investigate these impacts and develop an AI-based predictive framework to identify at-risk workers. Such knowledge can raise awareness among professionals within the human factors and ergonomic domain regarding the impacts of various external stressors on individuals’ cognitive and behavioral responses when working in high-risk occupations such as construction job sites, wherein experiencing such stressors is inevitable. Further, the outcomes of this study can contribute to the practice by laying the foundation for designing evidence-based interventions to mitigate the adverse effects of such stressors on increasing human errors and cognitive failures.
