Hunting From Elevated Tree Stands: Hunters' Safety Practices And Attitudes Regarding the use of Personal Fall Arrest Systems -Update
DescriptionHunting has been considered as a recreation, a source of food, and a favorite family pastime. Just in the year 2011, the US Fish and Wildlife estimated 13.7 million people participated in this activity in the United States. Hunting from an elevated position gives the hunter the advantage of oneself not being detected by the animal and having a better line-of-sight of their prey. However, there were reported injuries of hunters while standing in the tree stand and while ascending and descending from the elevated tree stand. The current study is to assess the safety practices and attitudes of hunters in the United States with the respect to the use of a personal fall arrest system (PFAS) while hunting from an elevated tree stand. Suggestions and recommendations into the implementation of warnings and design modifications, which may lead to greater compliance, will be covered in this research.
