17. Effectiveness of Augmented Reality Training in a Part 147 Maintenance Technician School
DescriptionThis study investigated the use of augmented/mixed reality for a procedural aircraft maintenance task for TF-34 aircraft. Efficacy and user perceptions of training using a mixed reality headset vs traditional paper instructions. User training time, performance accuracy, and user perceptions of difficulty, confidence, workload, and user experience were collected and compared across training conditions immediately after training and again one week later. The results indicated that AR reality was just as effective a training method as the traditional instructions. It also highlighted potential areas of improvement for future studies involving AR/MR in aviation maintenance training.
