116. Use of Remote Focus Groups to Improve Inclusive Design Practice

DescriptionUnderstanding the design needs and preferences of individuals with disabilities is crucial for creating inclusive environments and products. This study used remote focus groups of wheeled mobility device (WMD) users to gather insights into shared autonomous vehicle (SAV) system preferences. The aim was to pilot an approach to obtain information from users often excluded in the design process due to transportation challenges and provide new insights to inform the design of SAV systems.
Accessible transportation is vital for independence and social participation among individuals with disabilities. SAVs offer promise in revolutionizing mobility by providing safe, efficient, and user-friendly transportation options. Understanding the design preferences of WMD users regarding SAVs is crucial for developing inclusive automated transportation systems. This study investigates these preferences through focus groups, aiming to enhance accessibility, usability, and user satisfaction, ultimately improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
