57. Exploring the Influence of Automation and Feedback on Multitasking Performance
DescriptionMultitasking refers to the ability to handle the demands of two or more tasks simultaneously by engaging in frequent switches between individual tasks [1, 2]. While multitasking ability is critical in various work environments, it is especially concerning in safety-critical work settings, as performance errors during multitasking may be life-threatening [3]. For example, pilots are required to control the movement of aircraft, monitor the flight system, and ensure that the crew’s tasks are completed concurrently. Despite the importance of monitoring and enhancing multitasking performance, researchers continue to rely on conceptual strategies, training, and policies for mitigating performance decrement during multitasking, which is unable to suggest personalized interventions to operators in a timely manner.
