54. Systematic Literature Review on Shared Leadership to Aid Collaboration and Task Allocation in Human-Autonomy Teams
DescriptionThe increasing reliance on autonomous agents across various domains necessitates reevaluating human-machine dynamics, transitioning from viewing machines as tools, to intelligent teammates. Consequently, task allocation between humans and autonomous agents represents a central research topic for human-autonomy teams. This research presents a systematic literature review on Shared Leadership in all-human teams as an alternative approach to conventional task allocation in HATs. This literature review identifies two Shared Leadership mechanisms in all-human teams invaluable for adapting to the HAT context: decentralization and mutual influence. Supporting these mechanisms in HATs can become the means to operationalize shared leadership that could enhance teamwork and adaptability. This review thus have major practical implications for designing and managing teams of human and autonomous agents.
