50. Practical Considerations for Enabling Dynamic Human-AI Teaming Across Domains
SessionPoster Session 2
DescriptionAs Artificial Intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly capable, new approaches are needed to ensure that human and AI agents can work together to augment the abilities of either alone. These approaches need to consider more than just task proficiency, but also creativity, trust, learning, and team awareness. These goals can be accomplished through the principled addition of AI that understands the characteristics of individual humans and AI agents, the work they do, how they work together, and how the teams come together and evolve over time. To operationalize these goals, we have identified a general set of requirements and implementation strategies. We draw on two sources to guide the conceptual design of software systems that enable hybrid dynamic teaming: existing literature on human-AI interaction and teamwork, and requirements derived from a survey of a decades’ worth of software tools created by our company that aimed to combine human and artificial intelligence.
