84. The Readiness Level of Industry 4.0 Applications and Assistance to Workers: A Systematic Literature Review
DescriptionIndustry 4.0 (I-4.0) has revolutionized how goods are manufactured, changing the role of humans in production systems. Although the benefits of the applications of I-4.0 are widely studied, the current readiness level of these technologies to potentially assist and benefit the worker must be clarified. A systematic literature review was conducted to identify current technologies developed to assist I-4.0 workers and evaluate their Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and Human Readiness Level (HRL). Findings indicated that although there is an increase in papers focusing on I-4.0 applications and their assistance to workers, less than 10% have been tested or proven in an operational environment. Discrepancies between TRL and HRL (40%) were also found, indicating potential risks for the human-system performance. This review also highlighted a need for broadening the connection between academia and industry partners to understand how these technologies benefit, challenge, and support workers in operational environments.
