Theresa Kessler
Biography
Theresa Kessler received her PhD. in Human Factors and Cognitive Psychology with a focus in Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Central Florida (UCF). Her dissertation focus was on Neurophysiological Correlates for Trust in Robots. She received a M.Sc. in Modeling and Simulation and a B.Sc. in Psychology, both from UCF, as well as a B.Sc. in Marketing from Nicholls State University. Dr. Kessler investigates human trust in technology systems (AI, robots, and automation), and human-human trust using experimental, quasi-experimental and qualitative methods, as well as meta-analyses. Her work in the field of human trust is reflected in more than 30 professional publications, presentations, and book chapters. Dr. Kessler was a U.S. Air Force Graduate Research Fellow and a Human Factors and Ergonomic Society (HFES) Emerging Leader. Dr. Kessler is the Associate Head of the Human Systems Engineering Branch in the Applied Systems Laboratory at Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI). Her current interests are trust in information with a focus on disinformation and misinformation, and the cognition behind decision making. She currently serves as the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) Volunteer Chair and on the HFES Mentor-Mentee Committee.
