Richard Tyrrell
Biography
Rick Tyrrell is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Clemson University. He received his PhD in Experimental Psychology from Penn State University under the mentorship of Herschel Leibowitz. At Penn State, he studied both basic and applied aspects of human visual perception and his favorite studies are those that make contributions to our basic understanding of perceptual phenomena while simultaneously addressing real world problems. A key focus of his recent research has been limitations in drivers’ ability to perceive and respond to vulnerable road users at night. He was involved in creating Clemson’s doctoral program in Human Factors Psychology. In 2012 he was awarded the A.R. Lauer Safety Award from HFES.
