Joseph J. Slade
Biography
Joe’s research focuses on the intersection of AI, teaching, and learning. How can we improve student learning through the use of Generative AI? How do students use Natural Language Processing tools to complete course assignments and what impact do these tools have on student retention of learning materials? Using retrieval-augmented generation, prompting, and different LLMs, Joe hopes to contribute to the development of the next generation of AI educational tutors.
As a member of the AI@OSU advisory group as well as the OSU Higher Education AI Task (HEAT) Force, Joe is actively engaged in institutional conversations about AI use and higher education. Joe is also the AI research fellow at the OSU Center for Teaching and Learning, where he contributes to university AI policy recommendations and co-hosts a podcast, "AI on Campus", in which faculty and administrators share their experiences with AI.
Feel free to reach out with any thoughts or questions regarding AI and higher education.
