Michael Lowe
Biography
Dr. Michael A. Lowe is the Chief of the Human Centered Engineering Division in the Applied Systems Lab at Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI). He earned his PhD in Experimental Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM). Dr. Lowe is a 26-year veteran of the United States Navy (USN) serving as a Research Psychologist and Aerospace Experimental Psychologist where he led research and development programs in Neuropsychology, Human Performance and Human Factors in extreme environments. His duty stations included Undersea Medical billets, where he developed the first Neurocognitive assessment instrument for use in undersea habitation, hyperbaric environments and in water during active dives. He also served in Aviation/Space Medical billets and eight years at NASA Ames Research Center conducting Aviation Safety research and serving as program manager of over 60 programs of record with average yearly funding of $150 million from the DoD. Dr. Lowe’s current interests/efforts at GTRI focus on NeuroErgonomics with an eye toward performance efficacy in training and aerospace medical environments, Human Performance optimization in extreme environments, efficacy of training for AI/Adaptative training, human-machine teaming, trust in automation and human (behavioral, physiological and cognitive) modeling for MB(H)SE.
