SUMMARY:93. On Enhancing General Aviation Safety: The Integration of Gene
rative AI in Preflight Weather Planning
DESCRIPTION:Poster\n\nStephen Woods and Elizabeth Blickensderfer (Embry-Ri
ddle Aeronautical University)\n\nArtificial Intelligence (AI) permeates da
ily life and industries through enhanced machine learning, natural languag
e processing, and computer vision. Generative AI, a significant advancemen
t, mimics human-like text and makes data-driven decisions, particularly in
generative AI applications. Exploring novel AI applications is crucial, s
uch as leveraging generative AI to aid General Aviation (GA) pilots in pre
flight weather planning, with the aim to enhance pilots' awareness and red
uce weather-related accidents. \nHowever, the rapid evolution of generativ
e AI raises many concerns like volatility, security risks, and decision-ma
king biases. Preflight weather planning is vital in aviation, with weather
-related incidents comprising a significant portion of accidents. Despite
advancements, pilots' interpretation of weather forecasts remains subpar.
This paper examines how generative AI, particularly ChatGPT, can improve p
reflight weather planning, while also addressing risks and suggesting ethi
cal research directions.\n\nTrack: Aging, Augmented Cognition, Children's
