SUMMARY:A Novel Labeling Method of Physiological-Based Pressure Pain Asses
sment Among Patients With and Without Chronic Low Back Pain
DESCRIPTION:Lecture\n\nWenchao Zhu, Yan Xiao, and Yingzi Lin (Northeastern
University)\n\nPain, especially chronic pain, is a complicated and subjec
tive experience, threatening global healthcare as one of the most serious
health problems. Traditionally, pain is assessed by visual analogue scale
(VAS) to indicate the pain intensity by the patient self-report, causing t
hem to become biased by various psychosocial factors. In this study, we pe
rformed two distinct labeling methods to assess the pressure pain in Quant
itative Sensory Testing and to differentiate healthy controls and chronic
low back pain patients: time period labels and percentage labels. Physiolo
gical signals such as galvanic skin response, electromyography, and pupill
ometry were collected. The time period labeling method was to segment diff
erent pain state periods via fixed time windows. The percentage timestamp
labeling method was to select the timestamp labels based on the percentage
of the threshold or the tolerance time. Both labeling methods provide ins
ightful information of physiological signals comparing different pain stat
es and different patient groups.\n\nTrack: Health Care\n\nSession Chair: K
