SUMMARY:Transfer of Learning on Driver’s Mental Model of ADAS
DESCRIPTION:Lecture\n\nJimin Kim (University of Iowa)\n\nThis research was
conducted to investigate the impact of transfer of learning on drivers' m
ental models of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADASs). The study was
designed to understand how existing trained mental models influenced drive
rs' understanding of new (i.e., unexperienced) ADASs. The primary research
question was whether training on Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) translated
to understanding of different components of other ADAS systems. Transfer
of learning refers to applying existing knowledge and skills to new situat
ions, with the outcome being either positive or negative based on the simi
larity between the original and new contexts. Through exploring different
types of transfer of learning, the study aimed to provide insights for con
 sumer education.\n\nTrack: Surface Transportation\n\nSession Chairs: Jon A
ntin (Virginia Tech Transportation Institute) and Anne Garcia (National Tr
 ansportation Safety Board)
