SUMMARY:CANCELED - Automating the Analysis of Dialogue Acts in Teams to Un
 derstand Distributed Sensemaking
DESCRIPTION:Lecture\n\nChristopher Baber (University of Birmingham); Andre
w Leggatt, George Raywood-Burke, Simon Attfield, and Huw Gibson (Trimetis)
; and Donna Amey (Defence Science and Technology Laboratory)\n\nAutomatica
lly transcribed radio communications were analysed as Dialogue Acts to exp
lore how Sensemaking was affected by the ways in which information was obt
ained and shared by teams. To aid in this specification, we define a fram
ework for the activity being performed and use this to label dialogue acts
. We ran an experiment using C3Fire in which teams of three people rece
ived either views of their own units, their team's units, or the entire sc
ene. Messages were categorised as Situation Awareness, Fire and Rescue Op
erations, Action, Reasoning. Transcripts were analysed manually and with
both supervised and unsupervised Machine Learning. We show that dialogue
act types (particularly for 'situation awareness' and 'reasoning') vary w
ith the views given to the teams. such that a local view of the environme
nt affects Situation Awareness and a teams ability to reason. The work c
ontributes to automating the analysis of dialogue acts in operational and
 training settings.\n\nTrack: Cognitive Engineering & Decision Making\n\nSe
