SUMMARY:Enhancing Hazard Recognition in Construction: Developing Personali
zed Safety Training to Overcome Cognitive Limitations
DESCRIPTION:Lecture\n\nSogand Hasanzadeh, Kyeongsuk Lee, and Behzad Esmaei
li (Purdue University)\n\nMaintaining situational awareness in the dynamic
construction environment is crucial for hazard identification and risk ma
nagement. Over 50% of construction hazards remain unrecognized despite adv
anced site-monitoring techniques and safety systems. Human errors, such as
attentional failures and flawed risk perception, cause up to 80% of accid
ents. This study proposes an AI-informed personalized safety training prog
ram using 360-degree panoramas and wearable sensors to address individual
cognitive limitations and enhance hazard identification capabilities. Eval
uations of this program show its potential to significantly improve worker
s' hazard identification by providing customized training addressing their
cognitive failures. The implications extend beyond immediate safety impro
vements, suggesting a paradigm shift in how safety training is conceptuali
zed and delivered across the construction industry. By laying the groundwo
rk into cognitive factors affecting safety performance and offering a blue
print for more effective training designs, this study contributes valuable
insights with the potential to transform safety practices and reduce work
 place accidents.\n\nTrack: Safety\n\nTopics: DEI\n\nSession Chair: Atif As
