SUMMARY:Decision Fatigue Framework: Unveiling the Causes and Consequences
of Decision Fatigue through Systematic Review
DESCRIPTION:Lecture\n\nPratima Saravanan and Nurul Ahad Choudhury (Oklahom
a State University)\n\nAn American adult makes approximately 35,000 decisi
ons daily. Though making such a high number of decisions is daunting, deci
sion-making can get even more challenging if such decisions involve high-r
isk domains (e.g., firefighters and emergency personnel). Past studies rev
ealed that the effectiveness of the decision-making process declines with
the rise in the complexity of decisions and the frequency of consecutive d
ecision-making. These intricacies give rise to the phenomenon called decis
ion fatigue, which refers to the deteriorating quality of decisions an ind
ividual makes after a prolonged decision-making period. Decision fatigue l
eads to reduced efficiency in the rate and quality of decisions. The objec
tive of this current work is to consolidate and summarize the findings in
a structured manner and develop a conceptual framework that can be general
ized across different domains. This conceptual framework can aid practitio
ners, policymakers, and researchers in improving the effectiveness and acc
uracy of organizational decision-making.\n\nTrack: Cognitive Engineering &
